Housing Associations with Properties to Rent in Bassetlaw
Introduction
If you are looking to rent a home in the Bassetlaw area, you may want to consider renting from a Housing Association.
What are Housing Associations?
Housing Associations are housing providers that build or renovate properties for rent or sale at affordable prices. They are also known as Registered Social Landlords.
In the Bassetlaw district, nearly 2000 homes are owned by Housing Associations. Some of the Associations have large amounts of housing stock across the region and country, whilst others only have small numbers of stock and operate on a more localised level.
How to apply
The majority of Housing Associations advertise their available properties through Bassetlaw District Council’s Homefinder Choice Based Lettings Scheme.
This means that if you have registered with Bassetlaw District Council you can look for both Council properties and those owned and managed by Housing Associations.
To register an application with Bassetlaw District Council please visit our website www.bassetlaw.gov.uk or www.a1homefinder.org.uk and complete an online housing application. If you require any help in completing a form you can contact our Housing Call Centre on 0800 590542, email us at customer.services@bassetlaw.gov.uk or visit one of our offices at Retford or Worksop.
Please note that as well as registering with Bassetlaw District Council some Housing Associations allow you to apply for accommodation directly with them as they may have their own waiting lists as well as advertising their stock through ourselves. Housing Associations have their own “Lettings Policy” which may not be the same criteria as Bassetlaw District Council’s Choice Based Lettings Policy.
How Will I Be Made An Offer?
If you have “bid” for a housing association property through the Council’s Homefinder Lettings Scheme, the Housing Association will contact you directly if they are able to offer you a property. You will be able to look at the property before making a final decision.
