Local Character & Distinctiveness

What about the impact on the natural environment and our historic buildings and places?

The Council is confident that the proposed level of growth can be accommodated without having a detrimental impact on the District’s built and natural environment. The draft Local Plan has been prepared with statutory consultees such as Historic England and Natural England to identify any potential impacts on the District’s much valued natural environment and heritage assets.

The vast majority of natural assets will continue to be protected.  Where a development site is allocated in the draft Local Plan and there are unavoidable impacts on the natural environment, extensive mitigation will be required.

Where there is a potential impact to the historic environment from development, a heritage statement will be identified as a requirement of any future planning application. The Council is committed to ensuring that Bassetlaw’s heritage assets will continue to be preserved and enhanced.
