More Bassetlaw District Council residents are getting the chance to recycle their waste through the introduction of new communal bins.
Around 20 residents in a block of flats on Cresswell Road in the Sandy Lane area of Worksop are now able to separate their rubbish in communal bins for either general waste or for recycling.
The so-called MetroSTOR bins are part of estate modernisation plans by the council and if successful could be introduced at other locations across the district.
Cllr Jonathan Slater, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing said:
“These new communal bins provide a great opportunity to enable more of our tenants, currently living in blocks of flats, to access recycling opportunities.
“It’s important we continue to look at ways to modernise our estates to improve the quality of life for all our residents.”
The new bins will be assessed over an eight-week period and if working well, there are 10 other locations on the estate which could see them introduced over the course of the remaining financial year.
Alongside the new bin stores, a glass bottle recycling bank is also being installed for use by the whole Sandy Lane estate.
Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Environment and Energy said:
“I am pleased we can offer recycling opportunities for more of our residents and look forward to seeing the success of this trial.
“This supports our Vision 2040 plan to increase recycling rates, including glass collection across the district.”
