New accessible facilities officially opened at Langold Country Park

Bassetlaw District Council has officially opened its latest Changing Places WC facility at Langold Country Park.

It is part of the council’s work to modernise amenities at the Green Flag Award winning park and make it more accessible and improving health for all in line with our Vision 2040.

£140k of funding for the project has been provided by the Council, alongside a £30k shared funding allocation from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government supported by the Changing Places delivery partner Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK).

Bassetlaw resident Alison Beevers, whose son Mylor has cerebral palsy said:
"Parks and open spaces are high on the list of areas where people want to see Changing Places toilets.

“I am delighted that disabled individuals, their families and carers, who need Changing Places toilets will now be able to enjoy and visit this popular and beautiful park."

The addition of a Changing Places toilet to the park, featuring specialist equipment such as hoists, changing benches, adapted toilet and extra space for parents and carers, will support a person who cannot use standard accessible toilets.

It adds to the council’s existing facilities in The Canch in Worksop and Chancery Lane in Retford.

Cllr Lynne Schuller, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “The addition of this Changing Places facility, enhancing our existing provision across Bassetlaw, will make a huge difference in improving the lives of people with disabilities and their families.

“It has made Langold Country Park more accessible allowing families to more easily access this park, taking advantage of the benefit of improving emotional health, being in a green open space.”

As well as the new Changing Places WC facility in Langold park, a new café pod has also opened replacing an old structure which was deemed no longer fit for purpose.

Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Environment and Energy said “The arrival of the Changing Places facility and separate café pod has opened this popular site to more residents and visitors.

“It shows the council’s continuing investment in our parks and open spaces as we look to encourage more people to enjoy our green spaces across the district.”
