Environment Agency Clears 93 Tonnes of Silt and Debris from Retford Beck Culverts

AMCO Giffen, contractors working on behalf of the Environment Agency, have cleared 93 tonnes of silt and debris from culverts on Blackstope Lane and Grove Lane in Retford, as part of an ongoing programme of works around Bassetlaw.

As well as increasing the capacity and flow, the culverts have been re-surveyed to give an indication of their true condition and prepare for any future improvement works. AMCO Giffen are now moving onto de-silting the culvert along Arlington Way with evening works due to start in early October. The Environment Agency has also been carrying out de-silting works on the River Idle by Stonehill Farm.

Further works are planned this autumn, at Darrel Road, Retford and on the River Ryton in Worksop. A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said:

“We are committed to working with partners to reduce the risk of flooding to people in the Bassetlaw District.

“Besides the de-silting works, we are also undertaking earthworks and asset repairs, as well as tree and blockage removals from the rivers to manage flood risk in the area.

“These works are in addition to the routine maintenance our staff undertake across the area on an annual basis.

“We continue to urge people to check their flood risk and to sign up for flood warnings at www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings.”
