Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw will be showcasing creative talent thanks to funding secured from a group of district councillors.
The £1k grant will support the charity’s “Focus On You” event taking place in March next year at the North Notts arena, it sees over 200 young people from schools, colleges, post16s, and youth centres, performing to raise money for charity.
The funding, which will also support other FOYPIB events in October and November, comes from Councillor Community Grants from Cllr Sue Shaw, Cllr Robin Carrington-Wilde, Cllr David Challinor, Cllr Harriet Digby, Cllr Paddy Ducey, Cllr Tony Eaton, Cllr Neil Sanders, Cllr John Shepherd, Cllr Joan Sanger MBE and Cllr Jonathan Slater.
Noelle Barron Development Manager at FOYPIB said: “I would like to thank all the Councillors that helped donate towards Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw.
“We want young people who come through our doors, to access support that helps them reach their full potential and excel in confidence whether that’s helping as volunteers at events or taking part in an activity or project.
“Supporting young people with mindful activities and self-care products, gives us an option to support some young carers with their needs if they have barriers to engage.
“The charity will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026, it’s important we continue the legacy of this great Bassetlaw charity.”
As well as the events, FOYPIB will also use some of the grant to buy self-care products, alongside mindful activities packs to be given to young people who are not able to engage in the activities.
Cllr Sue Shaw, Chair of Bassetlaw District Council said: “Focus on young people in Bassetlaw gives so much back to young people in the community, it’s important we continue to support the fantastic work the charity do to organise fund raising events throughout the year, as well as receive community grant funding to enable young people to have a step-up.
“Giving young people the opportunity to apply for funding to support their hobbies and interests to enhance their physical and mental health and wellbeing through activities that helps with their journey to the next stage of their life.”
Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small budget and has the discretion to award grants to community activities that will benefit the community within their respective electoral ward areas. Councillors will consider grant applications for sports; culture and heritage; environment and sustainability; social welfare; and community activities.
