Funding for new Baby & Toddler Group at Ordsall Parish Hall

A Baby and Toddler Group in Ordsall can expand the toy box and increase safety thanks in part to two Councillor Community Grants.

The £450 grant will see new equipment such as floor mats, safety gates as well as soft play toys such as play tents, dolls, and cots being purchased.

Mayor of Retford, Cllr David Naylor and Cllr Carolyn Troop, Ward Members for East Retford South, jointly donated the grants through their Councillor Community Grants.

All Hallows Church Toddler Group Supervisor Kathryn Watkinson said: “I want to thank Cllr Naylor and Cllr Troop for their donation towards the baby and toddler group.

“The group is going from strength to strength providing a much-needed place for parents and grandparents to meet, have a cup of tea and for their baby and toddlers to enjoy playing and interacting together.”

The baby and toddler group, for children three years old and under, was set up in June this year by Kathryn and almost 40 families are already using the group. It’s based at Ordsall Parish Hall and runs every Monday between 9.15am and 11am.

The group has also had a helping hand with grants from BCVS, donations from the local community and purchase second hand toys local charity shops in Retford.

Cllr David Naylor added: “Services such as this are important for the local community. Families in Ordsall and the surrounding areas will definitely benefit from the tireless work that Kathryn and the Church have done to set up the group. It’s crucial that we continue to support projects such as this.”

You can find more information about the Ordsall Baby & Toddler Group on their Facebook page, as well as the latest news and events that are happening at the Parish Hall.

Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small budget and has the discretion to award grants to activities that will benefit the community within their respective electoral ward areas. Councillors will consider grant applications for sports; culture and heritage; environment and sustainability; social welfare; and community activities.
