A breakfast club in Worksop that supports men with their mental health has been given a boost thanks to a Bassetlaw Councillor Grant.
Every month The Edge, which is based at the Oasis Centre in Kilton, hosts a breakfast support network where men who feel that they are struggling with their mental health can go along and talk to people who are in a similar situation, make new friends, and eat a Full English Breakfast.
The sessions have been running for the last seven years and normally attract around 20 people. A £200 grant from Cllr Deborah Merryweather, Ward Member for Worksop East, will ensure that the group is well funded in the immediate future.
Trustee of the Oasis Centre, Paul Wrobel, said: “We would like to thank Cllr Merryweather for her donation which will help the group to continue to grow. By hosting these sessions, we are trying to provide a safe space for men to interact, make friends and make sure that everyone is valued and respected.”
The group meets on the last Saturday of each month, starting at 9am until 11am.
Cllr Merryweather said: “It’s important that we continue to support these groups through talking and interaction. As the days get shorter it’s more vital that we make sure that no one feels alone, and there is someone to turn to for help and support.
The work that goes on here is fantastic and donating this grant, I hope will go a long way in supporting more men and young adults going forward.”
In addition to the breakfast club, the Edge holds drop-in sessions on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 1pm.
They have large seating areas in the main hall with a football table, pool table and a dartboard. As well as an outdoor space, there is also a kitchen and a computer room where young adults and men can develop and learn new skills.

Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small budget and has the discretion to award grants to community activities that will benefit the community within their respective electoral ward areas. Councillors will consider grant applications for sports; culture and heritage; environment and sustainability; social welfare; and community activities.
