The Bassetlaw Black History Month event will be back at the end of October featuring entertainment, panel discussions and support that can help to build a more diverse community in our district.
Hosted at Worksop Town Hall on Saturday 26th October, the event has been supported by local councillors who have donated £800 from their Community Grants.
This year’s theme is ‘building a stronger and more resilient community through networking’ and just some of the attractions this year include dancers, poetry and a panel discussing key areas such as career navigation and life after migration.
The event will also address the challenges some residents in Bassetlaw face, including cultural adaption and social integration, as well as combating isolation and promoting positive mental wellbeing.
Sylvia Acquah, CEO of w2 Academy said: “I would like to thank the Councillors for donating towards our annual event.
“The number of people attending the event is growing year by year, and it’s important that we tackle the issues and challenges that people struggle in society today in order to create a more diverse and inclusive society. Our collective effort is essential in building the society we envision, and we hope to continue bringing people together to celebrate and shape our shared future.”
The event starts with a free session between 3pm and 4pm, including face painting for children, and follows with a ticketed main event between 4pm and 7pm. Tickets are priced at £15 and are available by visiting the w2 Academy Facebook page.
Leader of Bassetlaw District Council, Cllr Julie Leigh, said: “At Bassetlaw we want everyone to feel safe and respected, so celebrating many diverse events across our District is important to the identity of our area.
“The work that Sylvia and her team does makes a real difference and everyone, irrespective of their background, is welcome to take part. This annual event is important to the people of Bassetlaw and I’m proud to support it along with other councillors through our Community Grant.”
