If you’re looking to get the kids out in the fresh air this half-term, two new walking routes have been officially launched by Bassetlaw District Council within its parks and open spaces.
Roughly a mile long, both walks in Retford and Harworth and Bircotes, have been named by residents to represent the history and heritage of the area.
The King’s Ramble, named by Maria D, has been created at Kings’ Park in Retford while the route at the Tom Simpson Recreation Ground at Harworth and Bircotes has been named the Miner’s Mile.
Cllr Lynne Schuller, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “These new walking routes encourage residents to be more active in our parks and open spaces and I hope they will be well used.
“It’s well-known walking can increase concentration levels, improve heart health, reduce anxiety, improve bone health, and enhance fitness. We also know that time spent in nature is really beneficial to our mental health.
“These routes are set out to help you start to get active and mark your improvements as you walk further. Please take time to have a walk around them and enjoy our great green spaces.”
The routes are hoping to encourage people of all ages to get out and move more, with two further trails planned for The Canch in Worksop, called The Gatehouse Walk and The Green Lady Trail at Langold Country Park.
Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Environment and Energy said: “I hope people of all ages wanting to get out in the fresh air over this half term give these new walks a try.
“As well as getting active, it’s a great way to enjoy some of our lovely parks and open spaces and admire the autumn colours.”
Blue posts with orange marker discs have been installed to mark the way, while display boards containing a map of the full route and information on why the names have been picked have also been erected.
