Worksop retains its multi-million-pound investment to unlock its potential

Worksop has retained its government funding of up to £20million that will help to create new opportunities, boost growth and address local issues over the next 10 years.

Under the government’s new Plan for Neighbourhoods, residents, businesses and stakeholders will be put in charge of how the money is spent to create thriving places and stronger communities.

Worksop is one of 75 areas across the country to benefit from the funding first announced under the previous government’s Long-Term Plan for Towns.

To help decide where the money is spent, a board has been created, called ‘Worksop Together’ with membership currently under review in line with revised government guidance.

The board, which will be reestablished in April, will bring together residents, local businesses, and organisations including health and community leaders and will build on previous public consultation to put together a refreshed vision for the area.

Andria Birch, CEO of Bassetlaw Community Voluntary Service (BCVS) and Chair of the existing Worksop Together Board, said: “It is great news that we can now proceed and build on the great partnership work which has taken place over the last year.

“The Worksop Together Board will continue work hard to ensure that this investment adds most value to the development of Worksop over the next decade.”

The board will work in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council to develop a regeneration plan for the next 10 years alongside a detailed investment plan for the first four years. It will look at three objectives, thriving places, stronger communities and taking back control.

Cllr Steve Scotthorne, Cabinet Member said: “I am pleased that the £20million funding has been reaffirmed by this government, which will enable individual projects to unlock and revitalise the town’s potential for the benefit of the whole community.”

“This funding gives our community and its leaders greater control to address local issues, and I look forward to working in partnership with the Worksop Together Board to develop a regeneration plan for the town.”

Between April and winter 2025 the Neighbourhood Board must submit their regeneration plan to the government for assessment and approval, with delivery funding being made available from April 2026.
