Shireoaks residents continue to ‘read all about it!’

The presses will keep on rolling for the Shireoaks Newsletter thanks to donations from a pair of Bassetlaw District Councillors.

The newsletter has been published since 1997, but recently the rising costs of production have been a cause of concern. However, an £800 Councillor Community Grant from Cllr David Pressley and Cllr Sybil Fielding, joint Ward Members for Worksop North West will help to ease the costs of the production and printing.

Bernadette Ayton, Treasurer of Shireoaks Newsletter said: “The newsletter is a key identity of the village, losing it would be terrible for the residents who rely on it for their news and events that are happening.

“We are very grateful for the grant donated by Cllr Pressley and Cllr Fielding, it allows us to continue production. As the village continues and grow, we want to make sure that every resident is up-to-date with what’s going on around them.”

The newsletter covers a range of topics such as Parish Council matters to school activities and village groups such as WI, Carnival Committee and interesting articles. Currently there are six volunteers helping to produce the newsletter.

Cllr Pressley said: “The Shireoaks Newsletter has been a popular local outlet for over 25 years delivering news to the people of Shireoaks and the surrounding area.

“I’m delighted, along with Cllr Fielding, to support Bernadette and the other volunteers who have done an excellent job over the years producing the newsletter. They are a huge asset to the Community.”

The Newsletter has four issues per year and is distributed to over 1,000 households in the village.

Shireoaks Newsletter is also on Facebook, you can follow them for news and events from around the village. Visit: https://www.facebook.com/shireoaksnewsletter

Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small budget and has the discretion to award grants to community activities that will benefit within their respective electoral ward areas. Councillors will consider grant applications for sports; culture and heritage; environment and sustainability; social welfare; and community activities.
