Ordsall Bridon Cricket Club is getting ready for a busy summer by refurbishing some of their facilities thanks to a community grant from a Retford Councillor.
Bridon’s clubhouse has undergone improvements including a new timber cladding that will help to increase the building’s lifespan, as well as create an inviting and safe place for members and spectators to play and watch cricket.
A donation of £150 from Cllr David Naylor, Ward Member for East Retford South, from his Councillor Community Grant has contributed to funding the improvements.
Simon Bingham, Vice Chairman of Ordsall Bridon Cricket Club, said: “The grant will enable the club to provide quality services to the local community and offer a safe and welcoming environment for those playing and watching cricket. We also hope it will help to increase participation at Ordsall Bridon CC.”
The club has been in existence since 1937 with connections to the old Bridon Ropeworks site that was situated next to the ground before it closed in 2004. The clubhouse has been updated over the years with three senior teams, a Junior and Women’s section using the facility.
Cllr Naylor said: “The Cricket Club is the cornerstone of the Ordsall community, and we are very proud of the history that the club boasts. The improvements to the clubhouse are definitely a catalyst for the club to push forward and be a force in Bassetlaw Cricket in the future.”
The club clinched the Bassetlaw league 1A title on six occasions in the 1980s and were even one of the founding members of the Nottinghamshire Premier League in the 1990s. Former England International Kevin Pietersen had a spell at the club in 2001 whilst playing for Nottinghamshire. Currently the first team play in the Bassetlaw and District League.
