Young people are getting the chance to learn more about politics, democracy, and elections as part of a campaign being run by Bassetlaw District Council alongside the electoral commission.
The ‘Your Vote Matters’ campaign is taking place between Monday 10th March and Sunday 16th March, with this year’s theme ‘Get Informed and Get Involved’.
Among the schools taking part, Worksop’s Post 16 centre, Tuxford Academy, Ranskill Primary and St Patrick’s Primary in Harworth and Bircotes.
Cllr Julie Leigh, Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Communications, Policy and Performance said: “We look forward to working with Bassetlaw Youth Council to engage with more young people about politics, democracy and elections.
“We hope it provides those students taking part with the knowledge and confidence they need to cast their vote and encourage more of them to get involved in what’s going on locally.”
The sessions on local democracy and campaigns will be led by Bassetlaw Youth Council Members, supported by council officers to help young people feel confident to get involved with democracy.
Among the areas they’ll be looking at include, how to access trustworthy information by fact checking, discovering who represents them in the district, and how to take the first steps to get involved locally.
