Young people are getting the chance to learn more about politics, democracy, and elections as part of a campaign being run by Bassetlaw District Council alongside the electoral commission.

A Retford art group will be shining a spotlight on their creations over the coming weeks at the latest exhibition being held at Bassetlaw Museum.

Art group creates more opportunities

A group in Misterton is opening up opportunities to aspiring artists as well as helping others to improve their wellbeing thanks to a Bassetlaw Community Grant. Brushstrokes Art Group based in Misterton Village Hall has received a £250 grant, donated by Cllr Hazel Brand, Ward Member for Misterton, which will contribute towards materials and tuition for new members as well as covering their annual costs.

A dedicated helpline and online service providing additional support for Bassetlaw District Council tenants has been extended for a further two years.

DIY SOS-style make over for village hall

DIY SOS-style renovations on a village hall in Norton and Cuckney are almost complete thanks to the hard work of the local community. The building has been at the centre of village life since 1913. However, it was in danger of closure if essential repairs were not completed, including structural work to the roof and walls, installing a new heating system and upgrading electrics and lighting.

Worksop Darts Academy hits Bullseye

A Worksop based darts academy is looking to inspire the next generation of darts players in Bassetlaw, backed by a £650 grant from local councillors. With dart’s popularity at an all-time high since the rise of Luke Littler, the Worksop Junior Darts Academy, supported by Worksop Charity ‘From the Heart’, have been quick to take advantage and after setting up a dedicated club in January of this year, it now attracts over 200 children.

Council endorses submission of interim plan for Local Government Reorganisation

Proposals that would bring about the biggest change in Local Government in Bassetlaw for over 50 years have moved forward this evening with the Council agreeing to submit an interim plan to the Government for Local Government Reorganisation in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Cricket Club set for busy summer

Ordsall Bridon Cricket Club is getting ready for a busy summer by refurbishing some of their facilities thanks to a community grant from a Retford Councillor. Bridon’s clubhouse has undergone improvements including a new timber cladding that will help to increase the building’s lifespan, as well as create an inviting and safe place for members and spectators to play and watch cricket.

Shireoaks residents continue to ‘read all about it!’

The presses will keep on rolling for the Shireoaks Newsletter thanks to donations from a pair of Bassetlaw District Councillors. The newsletter has been published since 1997, but recently the rising costs of production have been a cause of concern. However, an £800 Councillor Community Grant from Cllr David Pressley and Cllr Sybil Fielding, joint Ward Members for Worksop North West will help to ease the costs of the production and printing.

They offer a welcome opportunity for people looking to enhance their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and the group is open to those who are either retired or semi-retired.

Grants to increase leisure facilities at Elkesley

A community hub in Elkesley is encouraging its residents to take up a new sport and use its facilities more with the introduction of a new outdoor table tennis table. A £500 Councillor Community Grant from Cllr Charles Adams, Ward Member for Welbeck, has paid for the table tennis table to be installed at the front of the Memorial Hall after Secretary Neil Oldbury discovered the tables being used by children and their parents on holiday in Europe.
