Funding helps hockey club

Worksop Ladies Hockey Club has received some help from Bassetlaw District Councillors that will support them with some of this season’s costs. The Hockey Club has been running for almost 50 years and is the only Women’s and Junior hockey club in Bassetlaw. The £600 grant will be used to buy a new away team kit, as well as funding match fees and umpires for league matches.

Grants contribute to Worksop Halloween Half Marathon

Preparations are already underway for the 2025 Worksop Halloween Half Marathon and thanks to a grant from Bassetlaw councillors, it hopes to be even more spooktacular. The event is a firm fixture in the running calendar and takes place during the last weekend of October, with just over 1,100 athletes competing last year.

Funding to help a Gardening Club

A gardening club that covers Sutton cum Lound and Barnby Moor is blooming with delight as a Councillor Community Grant will help them with preparations for their upcoming events this year. A £200 grant from Cllr Darrell Pulk, Ward Member for Sutton, will help to hire a coach for their trip to the Royal Horticultural Society gardens at Harlow Carr, near Harrogate in August, plus other activities that support the club.

Funding to expand Historical Society

A historical society in Bassetlaw will be able to expand their archive collection and showcase a village’s history thanks to a £200 grant from their local Bassetlaw District Councillor. Formed by Martin Grocock and Kieth Deakin in 2012, The Blyth and Hodsock Historical Society have been collecting photographs and artifacts of Blyth and surrounding area over the last 13 years.

A new and exciting culinary experience is being proposed as part of a £1.2 million project to breathe new life into the historic Buttermarket in Retford Town Centre.

Funding for a Singing Group

A collective of Bassetlaw District Councillors has helped dementia sufferers in the district to find their voices by supporting a singing group in Worksop. Backed by a £600 grant, the Singing with Dementia Group based at the Crossing Church & Centre in Worksop has been able to cover the costs of the professional singers who perform at their sessions and purchase a new stand for their TV.
