Councillor’s birthday gift to local charity

A Bassetlaw Councillor has celebrated a milestone birthday by donating over £1,000 to local charity that supports young people.

Cllr Joan Sanger, MBE and Ward Member for Beckingham recently turned 90 and instead of receiving presents, she asked family and friends to make a donation towards the Charity Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw (FOYPIB).

Cllr Sanger said: “I would like to thank most sincerely everyone who gave a donation to such a good cause.

“The charity does outstanding work in the community for our young people to prepare them for the next stage of their life. I hope this donation will go a long way in helping more young people in Bassetlaw and securing a long-term future for the charity.”

FOYPIB was established in 1996 and over the course of its 28-year existence has awarded over £100,000 in grants. The charity provides funding and support to young people aged between 8 and 25 in the area, helping them to realise their aspirations and reach their full potential.

Noelle Barron, Development Manager at FOYPIB, said: “The Charity would like to congratulate Cllr Sanger on her 90th Birthday. The Trustees of Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw are very appreciative of the funding Joan has raised through donations to support the charity’s work.

“We are immensely proud of the work we do to support young people across Bassetlaw and thrilled that this work is recognised and valued.”
