Statement by the Leader of the Council - Nottingham City

The Leader and Chief Executive of Bassetlaw District Council have written to  the Leader and Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council on behalf of the people of Bassetlaw to express condolences after yesterday's terrible incident in Nottingham.

The flags at Retford and Worksop Town Halls are flying at half mast as a mark of respect and to show our support for the people and communities of Nottingham.

Cllr James Naish said:

"We wanted to write to you on behalf of the people of Bassetlaw to express our condolences after yesterday's terrible incident in Nottingham.

"As the late Queen Elizabeth said, grief is the price that you pay for love; and it is with deep sadness that Bassetlaw has witnessed the events that have unfolded in our home county, and its administrative centre, over the past 48 hours.

"It has been of great comfort to personally know the competence of the emergency services, police and other organisations involved in the local response; and as an organisation but also as a Nottinghamshire District, we stand to support you and Nottingham residents in any way that we can.

"We offer our support and best wishes at these most difficult times."
