Misterton Bowls Club has purchased game changing machinery that will help to keep their green playing and looking great thanks to a Councillor Community Grant.
The bowls club has been supported with a £150 grant from Cllr Hazel Brand, Ward Member for Misterton at Bassetlaw District Council, which it has used to invest in the club’s future.
The clubs new seed spreader allows the bowling green to be re-seeded quicker, helping it to be maintained to a high standard and allow more games played over the course of a season.
Hazel Duffner, Chair of Misterton Bowls Club, said: “I would like to thank Cllr Brand for her donation. The new machinery will help to preserve the green, allowing all our teams to play their games during the season. Our green maintenance team work very hard, and the seed spreader will definitely help to maintain the standards they set for the club. It’s crucial that we continue to evolve, the club is in a fantastic position.”
The club consists of 23 members with teams playing in the Gainsborough League, the Isle of Axholme League and the Pensioners League. The bowls season runs from April to September.
Cllr Hazel Brand added: “The bowls club plays a key part in the Misterton Community. It has brought plenty of success to the village down the years and maintaining the green is crucial to making sure that the club has a permanent home and that its future is secure.”
Misterton Bowls Club is located just off Marsh Lane, behind the Cricket Pitch. The club claimed their first league title in 2018, taking the Isle of Axholme crown – the first time they won the league since it began in 1978.
Last year, the club were victorious in the Gainsborough and District Millenium Cup, seeing off Gainsborough Side Marshalls in the Final at Owston Ferry. Further success for the club came this season when they defeated Marshalls’ ‘A’ side to win the Gardner Shield at Owston Ferry.
