New life-saving equipment for First Responders

North Nottinghamshire Community First Responders will be able to replace life-saving equipment thanks to a £800 Councillor Community Grant.

The Community First Responders are a group of local volunteers who are trained by and work with East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust and will respond to emergencies across the district, especially in rural areas.

Volunteer crews carry life-saving equipment including defibrillators, and as one of the models they use is being discontinued, the group is now able to buy a replacement that will be used in the Worksop area.

Graham Robinson, Chairman of North Nottinghamshire Community First Responders, said: “It’s crucial that we continue to have access the latest equipment. For some of the villages around the area, Bassetlaw Hospital can be many miles away, which makes our role even more important to be first on the scene giving lifesaving treatment.”

Bassetlaw District Council members who provided the grant include, Cllr Tony Eaton, Cllr June Evans, Cllr Gill Freeman, Cllr Fraser Merryweather, Cllr Alan Rhodes, Cllr Joan Sanger MBE and Cllr Jo White.

Cllr Tony Eaton, Vice Chairman of the Council and Ward Member for Worksop South added: “Supporting these charities is vital for the work they do in the community but also for their careers in progressing to the next step in their field. The commitment of these volunteers shouldn’t go unnoticed, and I can speak on behalf of all the councillors that have contributed, we are very happy that we are able to help through our Councillor Community Grants.”

North Nottinghamshire Community First Responders is a registered charity and currently has 17 people that volunteer their time. However, they are always looking for new recruits to join their team and assist patients by being some of the first medically trained people on the scene in an emergency.

Responders, by gaining experience, have gone on to join the Ambulance Service as qualified Ambulance Care Assistants, Technicians and Paramedics, with some going on to be doctors. You can contact them via the website: https://northnottscfr.co.uk

Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small budget and has the discretion to award grants to activities and projects that will benefit the community within their respective electoral ward areas. Councillors will consider grant applications for sports; culture and heritage; environment and sustainability; social welfare; and community activities.
