Multi million-pound investment in council tenants’ homes in Bassetlaw

More than £103 million is being invested in Bassetlaw District Council tenants’ homes over the next five years to make sure they are well maintained, safe and energy efficient.

It is part of a five-year plan for the Housing Capital Programme for 2025/26 to 2029/30 and was approved by councillors at a Cabinet Meeting on Thursday 6th February. The report will now be sent to full council on 27th February.

Cllr Jonathan Slater, Cabinet Member for Housing and Estates at Bassetlaw District Council said: “This five-year plan shows our ongoing commitment to invest in our properties, while also regenerating the estates where our tenants live.

“Tenants will directly benefit from the improvements, while work to raise the energy efficiency of our homes will also provide support by helping to reduce energy bills at a time of increases in the cost of living.”

Under the plan, £52.5 million will be directly invested in tenants' homes including spending on new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, and roofs. It will target damp and condensation while making energy improvements such as wall insulation, boiler replacements and renewable energy.

The council is also allocating £19million to regenerate estates where the council owns homes to include better access to green spaces. A scheme is already underway on the Carlton Wimpey Estate in Carlton in Lindrick where improvements are being made that will enhance the community as well as tackling anti-social behaviour.

Work to continue improving the Council's Independent Living Centres to meet older Council tenant housing needs will also be supported, with further investment of £6.2 million in projects including modernising Conway Gardens in Retford and Swallow Court in Misterton.

£3.7million will be spent on disability adaptations to meet a growing demand, while £1.9million will be spent on the warden call upgrade to make sure it is fit for purpose and tenants only pay if they use it.
