Bassetlaw District Council is carrying out more flood management work on the brook which runs through Farr Park in Worksop.
Contractors are on site carrying out clearance and de-silting work at the southern end of the park near Chapel Walk and will be working their way upstream to Poplar Close, with the aim of helping to ease the flow of water.
It follows work carried out near Brook Terrace last month, resulting in the removal of debris, overgrown shrubbery, and rubbish from the waterway.
Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Environment and Energy said: “This latest flood management work follows similar efforts completed further downstream and is vital to ensure the brook in Farr Park continues to flow in a measured way through Worksop.
“It’s part of a number of flood management works being carried out along our waterways, in partnership with other agencies, as we look to minimise the impact from future weather events across the district.”
The work is taking place now to minimise any potential impact on wildlife, and for the safety of park users, some parts of the park will be closed off to residents. The areas of temporary closure will alter as different parts of the brook are cleared but fencing and signage will be used to ensure people are separated from the ongoing works.
It is estimated the clearance and de-silting works will take around six weeks to complete, depending on the weather.
The Farr Park works is the latest in a series of measures being taken in partnership with the County Council and the Environment Agency looking to reduce the risk of flooding across the district.
