The future development of Grove House Stables in Misterton has been secured after receiving nearly £15k from Bassetlaw District Council’s Rural England Prosperity Fund, protecting rural jobs at the family run equestrian centre.
The funding paid for a brand-new surface for the indoor riding arena, benefiting the ponies, riders, and staff.
The stables offer lessons in a supportive and inclusive environment and are accredited with the British Horse Society, Pony Club and as a Riding for the Disabled Centre. The stables also look after rescue ponies, with five currently being cared for on site.
Andrew Stennett, Founder and Owner of the Grove House Stables said: “We were really grateful to receive this grant from the council because it has enabled us to not only resurface the arena, which had a surface that was starting to get a little tired and a little worn out, but also to help with our decarbonisation plans by changing the lights to LEDs."
“The money has been vital and has not only secured the organisation, but also the jobs of the people that are working in it.”
The surface that has been installed is now more environmentally friendly as it needs less water to maintain, meanwhile new energy efficiency lighting has been installed with a £5k capital grant from the council’s decarbonisation funding.
Cllr Charles Adams, Cabinet Member for Business and Skills said: “I am delighted this funding has had such a positive impact on this rural business.
“This business is much more than a stable because it specialises in alternative education, by getting people on horseback and helping to build relationships with animals.”
Grove House Stables works with a wide range of adults and children using horses for recreation, not just riding but equine intervention, helping the health and wellbeing of the local community.
Cllr Hazel Brand, Ward Member for Misterton said: “I think what has been achieved at the stables is fantastic; the Rural England Prosperity Fund has been particularly good for rural businesses and communities to help to enhance their facilities.”
