Bassetlaw District Council has installed vital lifesaving equipment at all three of its parks after securing match funding from the government.
New defibrillators have been fitted at Langold Country Park, The Canch in Worksop and Retford’s Kings’ Park.
The council was successful in its bid for support from the Community Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Fund, distributed through the London Hearts Charity on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care.
Cllr Lynne Schuller, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said:
"We are delighted to have secured funding to install this life saving equipment in our three parks across the district.
“While we hope they are never needed, it’s good to know they are there when every second counts in the event of a sudden collapse.”
If someone has a heart-attack, using a defibrillator within the first five minutes can increase their chances of survival from 6% to 74% and according to the London Hearts Charity, the number of people surviving cardiac arrests outside of a hospital is 10.8%, which is the highest level it has ever been.
The AED’s being installed at the district’s parks include instructions for people on what to do in the event of cardiac arrest and will be accessible 24 hours a day.
Alongside the installation of the defibrillators, there has been further investment made at Langold Country Park. The toilets on site have been given a refurbishment and freshen up with a new lick of paint, alongside the arrival of new ladies’ toilets, sinks, and dryers.
Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Environment and Energy said: “The arrival of these three defibrillators are great additions to our Green Flag award winning parks.
“Meanwhile this latest refurbishment work at Langold Country Park shows an ongoing investment in facilities at our parks and open spaces to make sure they can continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.”
