Bassetlaw District Council is examining the impact its Safer Streets Wardens have had on Worksop Town Centre since the beginning of this year.
As part of this, a consultation is being launched to discover what people think about the wardens and if their presence is making the town centre feel safer, alongside comments or suggestions about the support they provide.
Cllr Lynne Schuller, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “We want to hear the perception of visitors, traders, and the public on whether they think the Safer Streets Wardens have had an impact on making Worksop town centre feel safer.
“It’s important we effectively target the causes of anti-social behaviour, and criminal activity in the town centre, and help increase a feeling of safety for residents. We want to make our town centre attractive to visitors, residents and businesses, and your feedback on the impact of our wardens will helps us to achieve this. Please take the time to share your thoughts, views, and opinions.”
The Safer Streets Warden’s role includes engaging with residents, businesses and visitors on community safety and crime prevention, and working closely with the Police, the Council’s Anti-social Behaviour Team, ShopWatch and Pubwatch.
They also enforce the Public Spaces Protection Order for the town centre, tackle street begging, deal with aggressive behaviour and alcohol and substance misuse. They can issue Fixed Penalty Notices and provide evidence to the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team or Nottinghamshire Police in the case of more serious criminal activity.
