Funding helps hockey club

Worksop Ladies Hockey Club has received some help from Bassetlaw District Councillors that will support them with some of this season’s costs.

The Hockey Club has been running for almost 50 years and is the only Women’s and Junior hockey club in Bassetlaw. The £600 grant will be used to buy a new away team kit, as well as funding match fees and umpires for league matches.

Joanne Robinson, Player Coach at Worksop Ladies Hockey Club said: “The funding takes the pressure off the club as well as continuing to grow its status on and off the pitch. As a club we are proud to offer the cheapest membership rates in the area so we can encourage more people to participate.

“We want to continue to create a pathway throughout the club so that all players can reach their full potential. Our sincere thanks to the Councillors for helping to continue our work.”

The ward members who have contributed are Leader of the Council Cllr Julie Leigh, Cllr Paddy Ducey, Ward Member for Worksop South, Cllr Joe Horrocks and Cllr Lynne Schuller, Ward Members for Harworth and Bircotes, Cllr David Pidwell, Ward Member for Carlton in Lindrick and Cllr Sue Shaw, Ward Member for East Retford East.

Cllr Leigh said: “Supporting our sports clubs is key to the identity of Bassetlaw. Joanne and the other volunteers at the club have done an outstanding job creating an inclusive club, where everyone can participate, develop and make new friends.

“We want to see the Hockey Club continue to progress as well as seeing upcoming athletes represent higher levels of the sport.”
