Hundreds of Santas are set to gather in Retford as part of the Retford Rotary Club’s annual Santa Fun Run next month, which has been supported by a group of local Councillors.
Hosted by the Rotary Club on Sunday 8th December, seven Retford Councillors have provided funding of £1,000 through their Councillor Community Grants, to help with event costs.
The fun run is open to all ages and those taking part can choose to complete a 2km or 4km route.
Elizabeth Prime, Committee Member for Retford Rotary Club said: “We are very grateful for the financial support that the Santa run has received from our local Councillors and their very generous contributions have allowed us to hold this event for the third time.
“The Santa Run helps to create a vibrant atmosphere in the town, as well as encourage people to be active, and to have fun and raise further funds for local charities.
“We hope to keep growing the event and make it part of the local calendar. If you’d like to get involved, there is still time to register and take part by visiting our website.”
Retford Councillors who provided funding from their Community Grants are Cllr Malachi Carroll, Cllr David Challinor, Cllr Harriet Digby, Cllr Dan Henderson, Cllr David Naylor, Cllr Graham Oxby and Cllr Susan Shaw.
Mayor of Retford, Cllr David Naylor and Ward Member for East Retford South said: “The Santa Run is always a fantastic and popular event and it’s growing every year.
“Elizabeth and her team do an outstanding job organising this event, which not only supports health and wellbeing, but also brings so much to help grow our local businesses in the town. It’s important that we continue to support these events.”
The route starts in front of Retford Town Hall, heads through Kings’ Park, and finishes under the archway of Town Hall Yard, leading into the Market Square. The event will begin with a warm-up at 9:50am, with the run starting at 10am.
Tickets are priced at £12 for an adult, which includes a full Santa suit, or £8 without a suit, £5 for children, which includes a hat, and children under three are free.
