Council secures £1.3million government funding to kickstart economic growth and promote opportunities

Bassetlaw District Council has secured over £1.3 million from the governments UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to help kickstart economic growth and promote opportunities.

The interim funding for 2025/26 was confirmed by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), who oversee where the money is distributed locally, at a board meeting last month.

It will build on previous UKSPF spending in Bassetlaw and will focus on three priority areas, Communities and Place, Support for Local Business and People and Skills.

Cllr Charles Adams, Cabinet Member for Business and Skills said: “We welcome this UKSPF funding to invest in projects that will kick-start economic growth and promote opportunities across the district.”

“We look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on residents and businesses supporting an uplift in skills, providing cultural opportunities, community engagement and business growth.”

The funding will help deliver projects to support the development of healthy, safe and inclusive communities, provide advice and support to businesses as well as start-ups, and focus on employability and skills.

Previous UKSPF funding, secured in 2022, has to date engaged over a thousand people in arts and heritage workshops, awarded 31 community grants helping to create 856 volunteer opportunities, provided over 500 business support engagements, alongside funding 47 decarbonisation grants and 73 high street and growth grants.
