The 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings are being commemorated by the Worksop, and Retford and District Royal British Legions.
A service of commemoration will take place in both towns, as events are also held across the rest of the UK and Normandy.
The D-Day landings on 6th June 1944, during the second world war, was the largest seaborne invasion in history.
Ray Fielding, Chairman of Nottinghamshire Royal British Legion said: “Worksop Royal British Legion are proud to be leading a special act of remembrance to Commemorate D-Day 80. The Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and community leaders will be laying wreaths to commemorate the fallen.
“This is a whole community event to mark the greatest land invasion in history. D-Day 6th June 1944 became known as the longest day, and our nation owes a debt of gratitude to everyone who took part.
Worksop RBL will be gathering to remember in the town’s memorial gardens at 10:30am on Thursday 6th June.
While the Retford and District branch of the RBL will hold an act of remembrance at the War Memorial on Retford’s Market Square at 10:50am on Thursday 6th June.
Members of the public are welcome to join them at the events, which includes a two-minute silence, prayers, and the laying of wreaths.
