Qualifications
- A degree, master’s or equivalent in town planning or other relevant field. – Priority 1
- Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or other relevant professional association. – Priority 1
- A supplementary degree, masters, qualification or membership of an organisation that could assist in the undertaking of duties associated with this role. – Priority 3
Knowledge
- An extensive working knowledge of the planning application process and the relevant legislative planning framework within which to operate. – Priority 1
- A working knowledge of planning caselaw (and the planning legal system), development viability, and other relevant areas. – Priority 2
- A working knowledge of the various planning application processes, such as the NSIP regime and the DCO process. – Priority 2
- A knowledge of the planning enforcement system and the relevant processes and procedures. – Priority 3
Experience
- Assessing/Consulting on major applications – Priority 1
- Participation as an expert witness through the appeal process - Priority 2
- Experience of presenting reports (or similar) to Planning Committee (or equivalent), senior management and Member Committees Priority 2
- Experience of training, teaching, and supporting staff of all levels and capabilities. – Priority 3
Skills
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, plan, co-ordinate and review own work, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in a pressurised environment Priority 1
- Verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to engage at all levels, including disseminating complex information in a digestible format in public and private settings – Priority 1
- Adaptive, progressive, innovative, and flexible in approach to work and working practices and willing to undertake a range of tasks for the effective running of the department. Embraces a culture of continuous improvement Priority 1
- To be able to drive, possess a current driving licence and provide a suitable vehicle for use at work Priority 1
- Commercially minded with a focus on developing and maintaining future relations – Priority 2
