Job Purpose:

Assist the Skills Hub Operations Manager in all aspects of the centre’s activities, including assisting centre occupiers (education providers) with day-to-day needs and signposting students to education partner’s courses and support services.  Induct and support students using digital resources onsite to support their learning. The post holder will support wider skills activities by providing administration support

Specific Requirements:

The post holder must be presentable since they will be representing both the centre and its occupiers.

An ability to relate well to people from a wide range of backgrounds.  The postholder will have to receive visitors, respond to telephone calls, and liaise with colleagues, centre occupiers, students, and visitors to the site.  Therefore, the skills of communication and co-operation are essential.

The post holder will have a keen interest in working in an education environment to provide outstanding frontline services to ensure a positive learning experience for students by providing first class customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Offer a welcoming, supportive and efficient service to students, centre occupier staff, prospective students and visitors when delivering face-to-face initial advice and support to users of the service.
  2. Delivering front of house services on reception and facilitate day to day running of the centre administration and the set-up and operation of the hubs spaces for teaching, events, meetings. Flexibility resolving queries to an appropriate level as they arise.
  3. Provide general support to centre occupiers in use of audio, visual, classroom/learning resources and video conference equipment. Undertake appropriate staff development programmes and keep up to date with new resources and information.
  4. Have sound knowledge of and promote employment and skills services offered through centre skills providers, outreach partners, careers and enterprise services to enhance the learners experience and social mobility. Referring queries to the Centre Manager or Employment and Skills teams where necessary.
  5. Communicate effectively; demonstrate good spoken and written communication skills. Inducting students, visitors and contractors on spaces and resources (individually and in groups). Supervise the issuing and use of digital resources and assist, where possible, with study skills as appropriate.
  6. Build good working relationships with colleagues with centre occupiers and their associated support teams off-site, develop links and networks to support student queries, referrals and facilitate access to services and learning for students.
  7. To provide administrative support for the Centre Manager in relation to booking learning spaces, meeting rooms, record chargeable services, raise purchase orders and carry out associated processing related to sundry invoicing.
  8. Provide support to the Employment and Skills Manager on employment and skill activities includes events, conferences, projects, clubs, and meetings.
  9. Undertake routine building and equipment checks and basic maintenance and liaise with appropriate facilities and technical staff as required, logging jobs with BDC portals and diaries as required.
  10. A flexible approach to your duties is required with occasional need for early morning, evening and weekend work.

The post holder is required to carry out any other duties appropriate for the grade and responsibility level of the post.

The post holder will be required to comply with relevant legislation and in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures.

The post holder will be employed under the NJC Conditions of Service for Local Government Services.
