I support the continued use of the Elms Hotel as polling place for the FA5 polling district, however, I would like to suggest that the FA4 polling district is split to allow electors south of the railway line, which is much closer to the Elms Hotel, to vote there in future. This is a particular issue for Avenue Road, Oaklands Lane, and Storcroft Road. Despite being just a few minutes walk from the Elms Hotel, these areas currently use the Retford Little Theatre which requires a walk of up to 15 minutes for these residents and requires crossing the busy London Road twice (from one side to another, then onto Carolgate). I believe the current arrangements have depressed turnout in these areas. I would also suggest that the Newtown area (i.e. Caledonian Road, Strawberry Road and all connected streets) is also transferred from Retford Little Theatre to the Elms Hotel. Residents in these areas will be familiar with travelling to the Elms Hotel as a popular local venue and restaurant. |

Member of the public | I like the polling station at the elms but I think for people with mobility issues it would be a long way to walk and you can't park very close to where the entrance is. Having more than one polling station in the same building was confusing and intimidating last time as it wasn't busy when I visited so there were 5 people just staring at me trying to find the road name on the boards. |

There seems to be a good selection and mine is very easy for me being at the school across the road. When my children went to the school, it was simple to drop them off and then vote after, or at collection time. I think it may be difficult to get in that one with a wheelchair though (its Sir Edmund Hillary school at the nursery). Some do not have toilets or if they are in a school they are small child's toilets so that may be an issue at times for some people. The school ones are often difficult to park at. I can walk to ours, but some may have to drive. Would libraries be an option? Also charities with building space as the room hire will always come I'm handy to them rather than paying a business or disrupting a school. I also think it’s a good opportunity to let local people things that are happening in the area at local charities etc - if allowed it is a good chance to inform people of non-political local events. |

All very appropriate and utilised well by the teams. Considers the buildings used for polling stations in the District suitable for voting purposes. Does not think there is a more suitable building for use as the local polling station and does not have any other suggestions that may improve voting facilities either at the polling station or throughout Bassetlaw in general. |

Please don’t use local schools as children’s education has already been impacted on from the Covid pandemic. If they keep missing days because of closures it will affect them again. I know it’s only one day but added to the days already missed will make a difference. Proposed alternative - Hirer a room at Gateford Nursing Home if they have one available or at a supermarket. It wouldn’t affect education |

Local people do not have to vote in person. I have had a postal vote for over 20 years, and it works perfectly. I have a postal vote. It works perfectly. Even that is outdated now, and think it would be more efficient to vote online. Those old fashioned wooden booths that smell of creosote and pencils on a string were outdated years ago. |

I feel there could be less polling stations considering the budgetary constraints councils are working under. All have to be staffed and paid for from the public purse on election day. I feel schools should not be used and alternatives sought wherever possible. There is much said about the importance of education, parents not being able to take children out of school to assist more cost effective holidays, but schools can acceptably close for elections. This seems somewhat contradictory in terms. I feel generally facilities are adequate but state again for reasons above I feel schools should not be used. My suggestion use other local facilities. |

General comments:
• Best to avoid use of schools during term time if it means whole school closure
