About the workshops
The workshops are a UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) funded programme to deliver arts and heritage activities in the community. The key focus will be engaging individuals that are economically inactive, intergenerational unemployment, have limited access to mainstream services and working in deprived communities.
Photography Workshops
The course will run for 10 weeks and introduce both traditional and modern photography techniques with our professional photographers. Based at Idle Valley Nature Reserve we will be looking at the beauty in nature whilst enjoying the magnificent surroundings of the reserve. One highlight of the course is a film photography session, where you will have opportunity to use film cameras to practice what you’ve learned with a roll of 24–36 shots. Expect a mix of classroom learning and outdoor exploration, so don’t forget your coats!
The photographers who will be leading the course are Lizzie Songhurst and Alan Withington.
Lizzie Songhurst
I’m a freelance photographer and videographer specialising in events and business promotion. In my free time, I enjoy exploring nature and capturing the night sky.
Over this 6-week photography course, we’ll start with the fundamentals - how to use your camera and understand its settings to create different effects. We’ll dive into composition techniques and creative approaches to help you take your images to the next level.
Alan Withington
Alan is a photographer specialising in alternative processes.
For his part of the course this will include traditional, sometimes ancient, slow-paced photographic methods with a modern twist. We will explore beautiful camera-less techniques and creating wonderful images with self-made cameras. In an increasingly fast paced world, Alan believes we benefit hugely from reconnecting with slow and mindful ways of being creative.
The course is free and available to Bassetlaw Residents. If you would like to book a space on this course then please email georgina.lancaster@bassetlaw.gov.uk
