Every year Bassetlaw District Council investigates numerous reports of abandoned vehicles. Some of these turn out to be genuinely abandoned and have to be removed and destroyed after enquiries into their ownership.
It is important that you have the following details available when you report an abandoned vehicle to us:-
- Is the vehicle taxed?
- The exact location of the vehicle
- The vehicle make, model and colour
- The vehicle registration number
Please note that if the vehicle is taxed, it is not technically abandoned.
Untaxed vehicles that are on public roads are not the responsibility of the local authority and should be reported through to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). For further assistance regarding untaxed vehicles please contact them on 0300 790 6802.
Once ownership of an abandoned vehicle has been confirmed the Council will contact the registered owner to request that the vehicle is removed. If the vehicle has not been removed by the date specified, the Council will arrange for the vehicle to be removed.
